We covered path 1 – the Greenfield scenario in our last two blogs. (Click here to access part 1 and part 2 of the Greenfield scenario). This path explored the organization in which procurement was primarily a back-office function devoid of any strategic engagement.

Let us now talk about the next scenario – The “Stalled Initiative: Substandard Suite”

• Current state – in this scenario procurement transformation was begun, but is now fully stalled. Procurement had invested in suite of solutions, but, for a variety of reasons, the solutions were not fully utilized and the early momentum was lost.
• Key people considerations – many in the department would be familiar with the basic functionality of the procurement solutions, but, will have been burned by the investment of their time and energy into learning and using the substandard technology.
• Key process considerations – with solution suite in place, the organization has been through a process-mapping exercise that has not yielded positive results. Process owners are likely to blame the technology for the failure.
• Key technology considerations – one likely culprit for the failure could be that the solutions did not do what they were expected to do from a functionality, integration and usability standpoint.
