Last night as I scanned through the satellite channels on my television, I stopped on HBO that played the movie “Transformers”. Awestruck by the idea of alien robots turning themselves into everyday vehicles on a normal day, and then suddenly transforming itself into amazing gadgets that fight enemies in a war zone, caught my attention. Of course the movie is far from reality, no one has a confirmation on the existence of aliens, let alone the super natural beings that are otherwise vehicles and could turn into robots.

But the movie made me think about the idea of “Transformation” and being in the procurement space I wondered, Does procurement need transformers? How could they bring about the much needed transformation to evolve as a strategic contributor to business, bringing value beyond savings.

The answer in this case is more realistic compared to the solution Michael has in the movie Transformers!
